Maks Rzeczkowski won a silver medal at the Peterborough Junior Regatta.

He was part of three crews entered by Cantabrigian Rowing Club at the event, which was smaller than usual after a last-minute self-isolation.

The regatta featured some of the top clubs from across the country for what for many was their first experience of side-by-side racing in 18 months.

Rzeczkowski was Cantabs’ stand-out performer, taking silver in the J13 boys’ single scull, narrowly missing out on gold after catching a couple of crabs.

Cantabs’ J15 girls double were third in the B final, seventh overall, while the J15 girls’ quad raced a good heat to qualify for the championship finals and place 12th overall.

The event was a good stepping stone for the younger athletes towards the British Rowing Junior Championships in July.
