Marc Scott clinches golden glory at the Muller British Athletics Championships
Marc Scott pocketed another record alongside a national title at the Muller British Athletics Championships.
The 26-year-old Cambridge & Coleridge AC member was favourite for the 5,000m crown in Manchester given his stellar performances so far this calendar year.
After running with the pack for the first 1,000m, Scott wasted little time in kicking ahead on his own.
He went on to win in 13min 32.98sec, which was a stadium record and the fastest time at the British championships this century.
Scott was five seconds clear of Jack Rowe, who in turn was five seconds ahead of Tom Mortimer.
The records add to the Europe indoor mark and the British 5km standard that Scott has already set this year.
“I wanted a good run out,” Scott told the BBC. “It’s just nice to be able to test myself on my own regardless of who else is in the field – that was always the plan, just to see what I can do on my own out there.
“I just wanted to get into a rhythm and just relax myself rather than have pressure from anyone else. I have been doing a lot on my own in training recently, just separating from the group in the States.
“I just wanted to be on my own, and got the job done.”
Scott, who is based in the US with the Bowerman Track Club in Portland, Oregon, is set to take a bit of a break away before refocusing his goals on next year’s Olympics.
He added: “I may have another race next weekend, we’ll see, and then I’m going to be taking a break.
“I won’t be rushing back to the States anyway.
“I will stay at home and relax with the family a little bit.”
C&C’s Holly Archer finished third in her heat of the 1,500m to reach the final, where she placed 10th in a time of 4min 19.39sec.
Fellow C&C athlete Samuel Clarke was seventh in his heat of the 400m hurdles in 55.62.
