Mateja Glusac strikes gold at the European Universities Championships
Computer science student lands glory in Portugal
Mateja Glusac savoured golden glory at the European Universities Championships in Portugal.
The 23-year-old computer science student was joined by Anglia Ruskin University team-mates Billy Goldsmith and Adam Adaman at the event in Coimbra, having reached the final of the British Universities Championships.
Glusac had competed at the European Universities Championship twice before, but not previously won a medal.
And his success came in the under-100kg category, beating the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Dennis Gutsche in the final, to be the first Anglia Ruskin student to win a gold medal at the championships.
Martin Beaver, ARU’s head of sport, said: “Mateja has always been an exceptional sports scholar and he works very hard with our high performance team to improve his judo. It is wonderful for Anglia Ruskin to be able to support such talented athletes like Mateja and we are proud to be able to support him for another year during his Masters.”
