Matt Sparrow and Andy Palmer have joined Cambridge City.

Winger Sparrow, 24, has arrived from Yaxley, where he scored 12 goals last season, while midfielder Palmer has made the step up from Kershaw League, Premier Division side Linton Granta.

“Matt is a great signing for us,” said City boss Robbie Nightingale. “To me, he is one of the best wide men at this level of football and I can see him being a big player for us during the forthcoming season.

“Andy is a player I have been aware of for a while.Although he is joining us from the Kershaw League he has played for both Soham and St Neots previously and I have no doubt he will more than hold his own at this level.”

But Tre Mitford will not be joining the Lilywhites. It had been announced he had signed for City, but he has subsequently agreed terms with Bedford Town.

Nightingale added: “It’s frustrating, but these things happen. The good news is that we have plenty of irons in the fire and lots of time to finalise our plans before the season proper kicks-off in August.”

City have their first pre-season game at Huntingdon Town on Saturday (July 6) against Godmanchester Rovers in the Hunts 125 Cup (kick off 10.30am).
