Bowler produces all-star show

Matthew Chave produced a five-star show for Great Shelford as they beat Warboys by nine wickets in Whiting & Partners Cambs & Hunts Premier League, Division Two.

Warboys had only three players make double figures as they were skittled out for 68, with Chave taking five for 13. Ben Cliverd grabbed three for 29 and James Van De Peer two for 20.

Kane Munday (29 not out) and Chave (28 not out) helped Great Shelford to 69 for 1 and victory.

Matthew Samson was in-form with the bat as Cambridge St Giles earned a 97-run win over Blunham.

The top seven batsmen all contributed valuable runs, but it was Samson’s 82 and Angus Thomson’s 47 that were the mainstay of St Giles’ 291 for 5.

The bowlers then got to work for St Giles, and Alejandro Freeman took three for 29 and Rychard Scrase-Field claimed two for 30 as Blunham were dismissed for 194.

Cambridge Granta II suffered a 122-run defeat to Kimbolton.

Hamza Rashid took three for 40, as Kimbolton made 217 for 7.

But Granta could not get going with the bat as only Dan Kindred (25) and Rashid (20) offered any type of resistance as they were dismissed for 95.

Burwell II were beaten by 121 runs by Ufford Park, and Sawston & Babraham lost ground on leaders Kimbolton after suffering a 21-run defeat to Saffron Walden II.

In Division One, Gary Freear made Histon pay as they were beaten by 86 runs by Wisbech Town.

Freear hit 187 off 149 balls, including 24 fours and seven sixes, as Wisbech reached 337 for 7. Ben Leach was the pick of the bowlers with three for 49.

James Mynott smashed 88 for Histon and Leach scored 39 as they put up a decent chase, but they were bowled out for 251, with Brodie Ellis taking five for 34.
