Boat Race 2024: Meet the Cambridge University Boat Club’s men’s crew for the 2024 Gemini Boat Race against Oxford





Cambridge University Boat Club’s men’s crew will be looking to continue their recent domination of the Gemini Boat Race when they once again lock horns with Oxford on Saturday.

Last year’s triumph extended Cambridge’s run of form to four wins from their last five meetings with their great rivals.

Below are the eight athletes and cox that have been selected to contest the 2024 match up on the River Thames.

Bow: Sebastian Benzecry (Jesus)

Studying a PhD in film studies. This year’s president and a two-time Boat Race winner in 2021 and 2023. Also won the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at Henley and previously rowed for Princeton University.

No 2: Noam Mouelle (Hughes Hall)

Studying a PhD in astrophysics. Part of last year’s winning crew. Raised on the outskirts of Paris and a four-time French champion.

No 3: Thomas Marsh (St John’s)

Studying a PhD in physics. A winner with Goldie in 2023, and also won Hamilton College’s first NY State Championships medal.

No 4: Augustus John (Wolfson)

Studying MPhil in medieval history. A newcomer to the Boat Race. Previously finished third at the Great Britain Under-23s trials.

No 5: Kenny Coplan (Hughes Hall)

Studying MPhil in history of art. Overcame a serious back injury to help Team USA win silver at the Under-23 World Championships in 2021. Raised in New Jersey.

No 6: Thomas Lynch (Hughes Hall)

Studying a PhD in engineering. Born in Ireland and raised in Canada. Took rowing seriously after enrolling at the University of British Columbia. Part of last year’s winning Blue boat.

No 7: Luca Ferraro (King’s)

Studying BA Classics. Had a year to remember in 2023, following up a Boat Race victory by being part of a gold medal winning British crew at the Under-23 World Championships. Also made the Blue boat in 2022.

No 8: Matt Edge (St Catharine’s)

Studying PhD in chemical engineering. A two-time winner of the Lightweight Boat Race, one of which he was president. Also part of last year’s triumphant Blue boat.

Cox: Ed Bracey (Wolfson)

Previously been a part of the rowing set-up at Harvard University Boat Club.
