Melbourn secure status in county squash top division
Play-off win seals Division One place
Melbourn have retained their place in the Cambridgeshire Squash League, Division One.
After finishing second from bottom in the table, they faced a play-off against Division Two runners-up Leys in order to preserve their status.
Dan Easton was beaten in the first match 3-1 and when Mark Oppen lost 3-2, it gave the Leys a two-string advantage.
But Melbourn’s strength at the top of the order shone through as Matt Sampson, Vinod Duraikan and Joe Weavers all won 3-0 to give Melbourn an overall 3-2 victory and preserve their spot in the top flight of county squash for next season.
“The team’s efforts and match results through the season have all been vital in contributing to us remaining in the division so am thrilled with our result,” said captain Oppen.
