Cambridge City II chalk up East League Premier Division victory away at Chelmsford
Millie Ely was involved in all of the goals as Cambridge City II recorded a 3-0 win away at Chelmsford in the East Women’s League Premier Division on Saturday.
Visiting City were up against a side that plied their trade in the National League last term, yet they were in the ascendancy from the off.
The first goal started with a move involving captain Ella Houghton and Ciara Comley, who combined to pick out Ely and she duly released Emily Clapham to break the deadlock.
Ely turned scorer for City’s second goal when she slammed the ball into the bottom left hand corner before she fed the ball wide for Chanre Bond to complete the scoring.
The victory has left City third in the table, five points adrift of league-leading Bishop’s Stortford.
In contrast, in the East Men’s League Premier Division, Cambridge City II suffered a 5-1 home defeat at the hands of Bishop’s Stortford.
Despite making a fast start to the contest, City soon found themselves behind on the scoreboard and by the time that Amo Flora found the back of the net they were already five down.
Meanwhile, in the East Women’s League Division 3 North West, a depleted Cambridge City V were beaten 2-0 at home in a derby contest against Cambridge University III.
A goal in either half proved to be the undoing for a City side that was ravaged by injuries.
