Under-10s win FA National Youth Futsal Cup

Milton Colts Sky under-10s have been crowned FA National Youth Futsal Cup champions.

Having won the regionals finals at Cambridge University Sports Centre, the youngsters headed to Birmingham to take part in the national finals.

After topping their group, they faced Chelsea Futsal Academy in the semi-final and after it finished 1-1, Milton triumphed on penalties.

In the final, they faced Nottingham Futsal Academy, and won 4-1 to be crowned under-10 national futsal champions.

Milton coach Michael Brown said: “This is a massive achievement for my team and for me personally. I couldn’t be prouder of the team.

“To stand toe to toe against the best teams in the country and finish on top is amazing and I’ll remember this forever.

“Who would have thought that a little village team called Milton Colts FC would end up National Champions?!”

Cambridgeshire FA chief executive Chris Pringle said: “This is a great result for Milton Colts under-10s and a real boost for futsal in Cambridgeshire.

“We are seeing more and more interest in this format of the game, and with opportunities to play in regional and national competitions, I am sure that demand will only increase in the future.”

Cambridge City girls’ under-12s were also competing in Birmingham, having won the regional finals in Cambridge.

City’s under-11s savoured success at the Buntingford Cougars’ event.

After navigating their way through a penalty shootout in the semi-finals, they faced Flitwick Eagles in the final.

Any nerves were settled with a goal within five seconds, and they went on to win 4-0.
