Ed Rolph fired Histon up to second place in the Pitching In Isthmian League, North Division with a 4-3 win at Great Wakering Rovers.

It was not the best of starts for the Stutes as Kojo Apenteng put the hosts ahead in the sixth minute.

Histon hit back in the 29th minute as Rolph's cross from the left was converted at close range by Danny Gould.

Six minutes later, Dan Brown's deflected shot was saved, but Josh Dawkin was on hand to smash home the rebound to give Histon a 2-1 lead at half time.

A first goal for the Stutes had given Dawkin the taste, and he had his second for the club two minutes after the break, driving home from the edge of the area after Evan Key's headed lay-off.

Great Wakering hit back to reduce the areas, and they were back on level terms at 3-3 in the 77th minute, with Apenteng putting a free kick into the top corner.

But just as it seemed all the momentum was with the hosts, Histon went up the other end and Buster Harradine's shot could only be parried out by the keeper into the path of Rolph to score what turned out to be the winner.

There was disappointment for Histon in midweek, however as they lost 2-1 to Romford.

Michael Abnett gave the visitors the lead in the 55th minute, but Charlie Lewis equalised for Histon from close range two minutes later.

But two minutes, Bagasan Graham ran through to score what turned out to be the winner for Romford.

The Stutes are away to Hullbridge Sports this Saturday (October 31).
