Cambridge United head coach Garry Monk hopeful of new signings before trip to Rotherham United
Garry Monk is hopeful of adding to his Cambridge United squad before Tuesday night’s trip to Rotherham United.
The U’s head coach revealed prior to today’s 3-2 win over Mansfield Town that a couple of deals to bring in fresh faces had fallen through earlier in the week.
However, during his post-match press duties this afternoon, Monk revealed that the club are ‘really close’ to finalising some transfer business.
He said: “I’m hoping over the weekend we can try and close a couple of deals that the club are doing.
“That will be huge. I’ve said a lot of the time it’s out of your control. We’re set to go, of course we are.
“We’re working with urgency and we need them in the building – we needed them two weeks ago. We know that but hopefully there’s a couple of really close ones.
“But again we’re at the mercy of things that are out of our control. We’re working as hard as we can.
“Everyone is aware (of the need for new signings) at the club. We’re not stupid and we’re not saying we don’t want people to come in. Everyone at the club wants someone to come in and we’re working hard towards that.
“Hopefully we’ll have some good news over the next couple of days.”
