Cambridge-based Hills Road Sixth Form College’s volleyball teams impressing at national level
Hills Road Sixth Form College’s volleyball squad have been enjoying some positive results.
Under the guidance of coach Frances Balaam, the most notable performances were at the Association of Colleges National Knockout Cup in Wolverhampton, where they achieved men’s and mixed team gold alongside a silver for the women. The women’s team gained another silver medal at the Association of Colleges National Championships at Nottingham University, where they were joined by their fellow students to be part of the biggest cohort of 63 from one single college to represent the East region in 2023.
Meanwhile, the East of England team finished in third place out of 10 regions, the highest achievement in a decade and Hills Road sports students are on track to retain the coveted Clifford Dixon trophy for the seventh year running by amassing the greatest number of points for competitions in the Eastern region.
The team is wearing a newly-sponsored kit after an agreement with Ingleton Wood, a multi-disciplinary consultancy in the property and planning sectors. The college’s relationship with Ingleton Wood also includes the provision of placements and opportunities for students to embark on degree apprenticeships with the company.
Anni Folan White, a partner at Ingleton Wood, said: “The young players in this squad epitomise what we ask our employees to bring to the table, which is to understand the task, prepare well to deal with it and focus on top performance to produce a successful outcome.”
