Former Cambridge City and Cambridge Nomads player Nick Lloyd awarded cap for Wales debut made 49 years ago

Forty-nine years on from making his senior international debut for Wales, Nick Lloyd has been presented with his cap.

The 71-year-old, who has lived in the Cambridge area all of his life, appeared for the first time for the full Wales outdoor team in May 1975.

At that time players were not presented with caps, but historians have been searching the archives in recent years to find past players and their service was recently recognised at an event in Cardiff.

Lloyd, who attended The Leys School as a child and was a staff member at St Faith’s School in Cambridge, made 26 appearances for Wales from 1973 to 1979 at various levels.

As a player he turned out for Cambridge Nomads and Cambridge City, and he was manager and coach of the latter during the early 1990s in the National Leagues.

His total of 173 appearances for Cambridgeshire – made between 1971 and 1990 – remains a record to this day.

Lloyd also played cricket for Granta, the CCA representative team and Cambridgeshire Over-50s and Over-60s.
