Ollie Brookes scores as Histon are held by Spalding United in Northern Premier League
Histon’s long wait for a home league win goes on after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Spalding United in the Northern Premier League, Midlands Division on New Year’s Day.
The last time the Stutes tasted success in the league on their own ground was on Boxing Day 2019, and they were hopeful of changing those fortunes against the Tulips, who had experienced a difficult run of form.
After a goalless first half, Histon took the lead in the 56th minute as a perfectly-flighted free kick to the back post was headed clear, but only as far as Ollie Brookes, who headed over a defender on the line and into the top corner.
But Spalding replied in the 74th minute.
A weighted through ball sent Ben Seymour-Shove away, and he cut back inside a defender to fire low into the bottom corner from just inside the area.
The result edges Histon a point closer to third-from-bottom Wisbech Town, but the Fenmen have got a game in hand.
This Saturday (January 8), Lance Key’s side play host to league leaders Ilkeston Town, who are three points clear at the top.
