Cambridge United complete loan signing of Steve Seddon from Oxford United
Fresh from announcing the arrival of Ryan Bennett this morning, Cambridge United have completed their second signing of the day.
The player in question is Steve Seddon, who has joined the U's on loan until the end of the season from fellow Sky Bet League One side Oxford United.
The 25-year-old defender came through the ranks at Birmingham City, making 12 senior appearances for the Blues alongside loan spells with Stevenage, AFC Wimbledon and Portsmouth.
He joined Oxford on a permanent deal 18 months ago and went on to feature on 40 occasions last term, with a further 18 appearances coming this season – including playing 90 minutes in Oxford's 1-0 win over Cambridge in August.
However, Seddon will now spend the remainder of the campaign at the Abbey Stadium, providing some much-needed cover with fellow left-backs Harrison Dunk and Brandon Haunstrup both currently sidelined by injuries.
Seddon told the club's website: “I am buzzing to get started. I want to come in, play as many games as I can and help the team push up the league.
“The manager has told me about how it’s a good group and a good club and all the lads have been welcoming to me. Physically I feel fit and ready, so I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
Head coach Mark Bonner added: “I am delighted to have Steve join us and add him to the team. He is fit, game-ready and enthusiastic for the challenge.
“We have known about the need to add in the full-back area for a while and with both Harrison and Brandon struggling with injuries, we have been in contact with Oxford United for some time about the possibility of this loan deal.
“We have added a player with good experience at this level and someone who has been training and playing regularly this season. This will give him an opportunity to find more game rhythm and help us achieve our objectives.
“He is a tenacious, whole-hearted individual who will add quality to the squad and his infectious personality will give us a boost as we look to kick on in the months ahead.”
