Mark Bonner has praised Paul Mullin and Wes Hoolahan after they were named on the EFL Sky Bet League Two player of the shortlist.

The Cambridge United duo have been nominated along with Forest Green Rovers' Jamille Matt for the accolade, which will be announced tonight (Thursday).

Mullin has scored 29 goals in the division this season, while Hoolahan has scored five and directly assisted seven goals.

Both players have also won player-of-the-month awards.

“I think the fact we’ve got two players out of a shortlist of three for that award speaks volumes for their quality, and the impact they’ve had on our team, but also for what we’re doing and what we’ve done so far,” said U’s head coach Bonner.

“I think it will be very rare that there’s been a shortlist of three and two have come from the same club; I think Norwich have got it this year, but it’s probably quite rare that happens.

“It’s a moment that we as a club should be proud of and the players should be proud of, and whoever wins it, fair play.

“We know that the value of those players has been great. One of them will go into tomorrow with a nice bit of confidence off the back of that tonight, and we will see which one it is, if either of them.”

Bonner added: “I would expect one of those boys to be lifting the trophy tonight.”
