Shelford Rugby Club leave it late to win Regional 1 South East encounter against Huel Tring
Shelford left it late to secure a 20-14 victory from their trip to Huel Tring on Saturday.
With their first match of 2024 entering its final minutes, the visiting Peacocks were staring down the barrel of a 14-13 defeat.
However, the Regional 1 South East’s leading try scorer Louie Tang dotted down for the 13th time this season to hand Shelford the victory, which was subsequently rubber stamped by Lewis Cracknell’s successful conversion.
A couple of Cracknell penalties were all that Shelford had to show for their efforts during the opening 40 minutes in Hertfordshire.
And they remained on the back foot on the scoreboard until the 75th minute when Michael Dunnett went over, with Cracknell again doing the honours with the boot before Tang’s match-winning intervention.
Will Cotterill’s side remain third in the table, one point adrift of Sudbury in second ahead of their home clash against eighth-placed Hertford on Saturday (January 13).
Meanwhile, Cantabrigian were beaten 38-19 by Diss in the Counties 1 Eastern Counties at the weekend.
Seventh-placed Cantabs head to Wisbech on Saturday (January 13).
