Archers were on point at the City of Cambridge Bowmen World Record Status Double WA720 Shoot at Downing College Sports Grounds.

The 10th anniversary of the annual WA double 720 shoot had been postponed twice because of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown restrictions.

But they made up for it last weekend with more than 100 entries, which was sponsored by Clickers Archery, and 60 competitors on Saturday alone across a mixture of bowstyles. Brian Dunlop, Alex Purser and John Gorman formed the judging team, with club volunteers helping the shoot run smoothly.

Jack Atkinson, City of Cambridge Bowmen chair, said: “It was great to see so many archers back out shooting after not having many competitions over the past two years.

“We enjoyed being able to provide this opportunity with the help of club members.”

Lydia Sinnett-Smith, captain and records officer of CCB, said: “The club has had a tough couple of years, with lockdowns and facility access issues during the pandemic resulting in a large drop-off of membership.

“We’ve luckily gained a large number of new archers in the past year and are all pleased to finally be able to run the shoot again, and welcome archers from both the local area and all over the country.”
