Cambridge-based Rob Roy Boat Club host successful events on the River Cam
Rob Roy Boat Club have hosted two weekends of close and exciting rowing action on the River Cam.
On Saturday, October 8 the Cambridge-based club welcomed rowers from many of the other local clubs for the Small Boats Head to tackle the 2,600m course in what were near perfect conditions.
And that was followed seven days later by the Autumn Head event.
‘Sisters with Blisters’, who were XPress Boat Club’s novice women’s crew, not only won the prize for the best crew name but also won medals for their performances at both meetings.
Cantabrigian Rowing Club also triumphed, with their crews winning more categories overall than any other club.
However, the fastest crew was the City of Cambridge Rowing Club’s Championship Eight as they covered the course in a time of just nine minutes.
The close nature of the results in several categories bode well for some exciting battles on the river during the coming year between both town clubs and college crews.
Meanwhile, a crew from Worthing Rowing Club in Sussex travelled the furthest to take part, exchanging the open sea of the south coast for their first experience of the narrow Cam with its sharp corners along the course and they acquitted themselves well.
Elsewhere, Rob Roy’s Charles Cousins won a silver medal for Great Britain in the Coastal Mixed Double Sculls at the weekend.
Cousins, who was paired with Clare Jamison, lost to Spain in the final.
