Histon made to pay for poor first-half showing during Premier Division South trip to Leicestershire
Histon’s slow start to the new GCE Hire Fleet United Counties Football League Premier Division South season continued on Saturday with a 4-2 defeat at Hinckley AFC.
The game was effectively over after 45 minutes in Leicestershire after the home side fired in four goals without reply.
The visiting Stutes did at least rally after the restart and closed the deficit with two goals.
Connor Barnes scored the first after he turned in a header from Max York before Tom Binder hammered in a shot from distance just before the hour mark.
The defeat has left Chris Nunn’s side sitting 16th in the standings with a return of just six points from their first seven fixtures.
Histon will look to kickstart their campaign with back-to-back home fixtures, starting on Saturday (14 September) when Newport Pagnell Town visit Bridge Road.
And that is followed on Tuesday (17 September) when Nunn’s men entertain Yaxley.
Meanwhile, Histon Under-18s romped through the opening round of the FA Youth Cup last Thursday courtesy of a 9-0 home victory over Rothwell Corinthians.
Histon will travel to Shefford Town & Campton in the next round.
