Cambridge United head Mark Bonner will continue to make alterations for Scunthorpe United's visit
Head coach Mark Bonner has revealed he will make changes to his Cambridge United starting line-up for tomorrow's home encounter against Scunthorpe United (7pm).
Bonner made four alterations to his league-leading side ahead of Saturday's trip to Port Vale – and he was duly rewarded with a 1-0 victory that kept the U's a point clear at the League Two summit.
The clash with Scunthorpe marks the start of an arduous run for Bonner's men, who are facing up to the prospect of playing four games in just 12 days.
And as a result, the boss is planning to continue with his policy of keeping things fresh.
"It's easy to stick with the same team and then you get the benefit of that," he said. "In the early part of the season, we did that and got a benefit – when we wanted that consistency and had time between games.
"But at this stage of the season we need to go into the last 10 games with as many players fit and up to speed as possible. The only way we are going to do that is by getting everybody involved in this block of games now.
"When you look at what we've played on, the pitches and the drain that has caused us – even Saturday, it was a massive pitch and a real heavy surface, having spent four hours on a bus to get there with the delays.
"We've kept churning out results and you can look at performances all you like, in some respect it doesn't matter, you've got to find a way of winning games. These boys keep doing it – massive credit to them with what we are having to put up with.
"With the slog that it has been since January, we're doing great. It's a real grind and we have to try to come out of it with as many points as we can."
One player that is almost certain to feature on Tuesday is goalkeeper Callum Burton.
The 24-year-old made a key save during the weekend victory and has impressed his boss since coming in to deputise for the injured Dimitar Mitov.
"He came into the team last year and did the same thing," added Bonner.
"He's got a good head on his shoulders and he keeps a nice calm goal. He made a key save on Saturday."
October's reverse fixture with Scunthorpe at Glanford Park ended in an impressive 5-0 victory for Cambridge – a result that moved them top of the table with six matches played.
It has been a largely disappointing season so far for The Iron, who sit 19th after back-to-back 2-0 defeats at the hands of Bolton Wanderers and Cheltenham.
However, Paul Hurst's side did string four wins in a row together prior to those two losses, and Bonner is expecting a much tougher assignment this time around.
"Scunthorpe had a tough start to the season and we were in really good form (when they met in October)," he said.
"They are more experienced, more organised and a harder working team than when we played them before – that has shown in their recent results and it's certainly a big improvement from the earlier stages of the season.
"We won't take anything for granted going into this one, we know it will be a tough game."
Injured pair Paul Digby and Harvey Knibbs will remain sidelined for the match.
