Cambridge South Men’s captain Sam Highfield hoping to launch East Men’s Division 1 North promotion challenge

Cambridge South Men’s I are hoping to mount a promotion push this season.

Last term South finished sixth in the East Men’s Division 1 North standings, chalking up six wins from their 22 outings.

However, having added Cambridge City player Nat Farrant as a coach alongside a trio of new players in Alex Jones, Callum Middleton and Oscar Serra, captain Sam Highfield is looking to be challenging higher up the table this time around.

“Last season we had a few silly results and there were games we lost that we should have won,” said the skipper.

“But this summer we’ve got an excellent coach and some new players in that we think will raise our levels.

“We’ve beaten Saffron Walden in pre-season and they are the league above so that gives us confidence.

“We want to be one of those sides going for promotion but at the same time we don’t know what other clubs are thinking – they are probably thinking the same thing.

“It’s going to be a tough league. There will not be any whipping boys this season and it’s going to be really, really tight.

“We think our standards have been raised though and we’ll be looking to push up as high as we can.”

Highfield’s side will get their campaign started on Saturday (September 24) with a trip to Ipswich & East Suffolk I.
