Seven-wicket haul for bowler in win over Norwich

Raj Singh has jumped into the top 10 bowler rankings in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League after another star showing for Cambridge Granta.

After being put in to bat against Norwich, Granta had a wobble as they were 27 for 2.

It brought together Johnny Atkinson and Chris Benjamin, and they got the scoreboard ticking.

Atkinson made 33 in a stand of 70, but Benjamin proved to be the anchor of the innings, making 75 off 78 balls before becoming the ninth wicket to fall with the score on 173. Granta were bowled out for 177.

Fresh from his figures of eight for 34 the previous week, Singh picked up where he left off.

He skittled out Alex Mhandu, Nipuna Senaratne, William O’Donnell and Ashley Watson to leave Norwich on 21 for 4.

Jack Newby (62) and Matthew Collinge (58) then got Norwich going in a stand of 100, before Singh made the breakthrough to get rid of Newby.

Alex Sears finally removed Collinge with Norwich on 154 for 9, and their innings was over 14 runs later as they were dismissed for 168.

Singh finished with figures of seven for 21, taking him to seventh in the standings for the division’s top bowlers.
