Late effort seals point

Rich Mackie scored two goals as Cambridge Nomads II drew 3-3 with Bourne Deeping in East Men’s League, Division 4NW.

In what was a scrappy game, Bourne scored twice in the first half, while Nomads replied thanks to Mackie’s first goal.

John Stephenson put in some excellent saves after the break, but Bourne extended their lead from a short corner.

However, Arthur Meadows pulled one back for Nomads. And they got the equaliser when Mackie found space at the top of the D to flick the ball into the goal through a melee of players.

Cambridge South let slip a two-goal half-time lead to lose 4-3 to Ipswich-East Suffolk II in 2N.

Two early goals by Oli Lamming and one from Harry Chalk seemed to have set South up for the win as they led 3-1 at half time.

Ipswich-East Suffolk fought back to 3-3 after the break, and they sealed the win on the counter attack in the last play of the game.

Cambridge Nomads suffered a 4-2 defeat to Dereham in 2N.

Jack Franklin and Nick Wells scored for Nomads, who had much of the ball and possession but were caught out by a few individual efforts against the run of play, while Rich Lloyd uncharacteristically missed from the penalty spot.

James Menzies’ brace helped Cambridge South II upset 4NW leaders St Ives II.

With their midfield diamond dominant, South always in control and two goals from Menzies and one each from Nevin Warren and new Belgian recruit Alex Baekelandt helped them to a 4-2 win.

A hat-trick from Simon Ta helped Cambridge South III to a 5-0 win over Louth to extend their lead at the top of the 5NW table.

Joe Whittaker and Dave Monck were also on target for South.

Cambridge South IV overcame having two goals disallowed to earn a 3-0 victory over Ely III in 6NW (S).

It was a one-sided encounter with South keeper Matt Saint-Gower largely untroubled as Paul South, Pip Ho and Alex Pashley all scored.
