Lewis Rolfe has become Cambridge City’s first new signing of the summer.

The 26-year-old will link up with the Lilywhites for the 2019/20 campaign, having made 32 appearances for Chesham United last season.

Rolfe had previously been with Hitchin Town for five seasons, making more than 250 appearances for the Canaries.

“I am absolutely delighted to agree terms to sign Lewis for the new season,” said Nightingale.

“It’s a massive signing for Cambridge City as he will bring vital experience to the team and I am really looking forward to him being part of the group.

“I have wanted to sign Lewis for a while as I know what he is capable of, so I am naturally very pleased that he has agreed to be with us for the new season.

“He is a leader, has a wealth of experience playing in a division higher in the Southern Premier, and he will be a big presence for us in the team.”

James Peters has quickly followed him through the door.

The midfielder has joined from Bedford Town, having also had a spell at St Neots Town. He made 22 appearances for the Eagles as they reached the play-offs last season.

"James is another great addition as we prepare for the new season," said Nightingale. "He has plenty of experience and is an established player in the Southern League.

"I have no doubt that he will be a success for us."

They are the first steps for Nightingale in building his City squad for next season. After a fall away in the second half of the campaign, they finished in mid-table in Evo-Stik League South, Division One Central.

The Lilywhites have also tied seven players down to the club for the 2019/20 season.

Goalkeeper Jamie Head, defenders Seb Simpson and Keano Robinson, midfielders Adam Watkins, Isaac Maynard and Nathan Olukanmi and utility player Mikey Davis have already committed to City for the next campaign.
