Four league wins in a row for Lilywhites

Ryan Sharman struck to give Cambridge City a 1-0 win at Barton Rovers in Evo-Stik League, South East Division on Tuesday night.

The midfielder’s first-half goal from a Lewis Wilson pass sealed their victory and followed up their 6-1 triumph over Egham Town.

In that game, Brandon McCarthy marked his City debut with a goal.

After playing for Brightlingsea Regent and Cheshunt last season, the 19-year-old striker joined Robbie Nightingale’s side on Friday, and wasted little time in making an impact.

City opened the scoring against Egham after 29 minutes, with Sharman heading in Ross Paterson’s cross.

Sharman had a penalty saved at the end of the half, but made amends by heading the second goal in the 49th minute.

Tom Knowles, Jordan Gent and Lewis Wilson added to City’s score in the second half, before McCarthy completed the win in stoppage time.
