Sally Phelps produced a five-star show for Thriplow as they beat Mildenhall by 131 runs in the Women’s East Anglian Premier League.

It was a clash between the two unbeaten teams in the division, and Mildenhall asked Thriplow to bat first.

They were restricted to 62 for 2 off the first 18 overs, and further tight bowling in the second half of the innings made it difficult for opener Issy Routledge and Zoe Barkes to accelerate.

Barkes fell with the score on 94, but the middle order got to work to add 50 off the final five overs.

Kelly Haynes (16), Phelps (21) and Lara Neild (7) helped back up Routledge’s classy unbeaten 73 as they finished on 162 for 6.

Thriplow were out for early wickets in response, and Sophie Hughes, Jasmine Westley, Emily Daltrey and Helen Atkinson all fell to Phelps.

When Neild caught Pippa Palmer off Isabella James’ leg-spin, Mildenhall were reeling on 19 for 5 off six overs.

Phelps took another wicket to finish with five for 17, and James got a second to leave Mildenhall on 31 for 7 as the clouds moved in.

The rain forced the sides off and no further play was possible, so with Duckworth-Lewis on their side, Thriplow’s unbeaten record remained intact.

They are away to Woolpit this Sunday (August 30).
