Cambridge goalball player earns nomination

Sarah Leiter has continued an exceptional year after being nominated for an elite award.

The 26-year-old Cambridge Dons goalball player is among five nominees for the sports category in the Women of the Future Awards.

Leiter has already won the most committed athlete prize in the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme.

And last week she was joined by clubmate Anna Tipton in the Great Britain squad at the European Goalball Championships.

In the fifth to eighth-place play-offs, Britain defeated Germany 5-3, but in the fifth/sixth place play-off, they lost 3-1 to Denmark.

“Euros are over and we finished 6th – staying up in A!” she tweeted.

“So proud of what the whole team has achieved this week! We are warriors – we are GB.”

Cambridge’s Filmon Eyassu and Michael Sharkey represented GB men at the Euros, and finished 10th.
