Sawston & Babraham suffered just their second defeat of the Read Brothers East Anglian Premier League season with a six-wicket reversal at Great Witchingham.

The hosts won the toss and opted to put the Rams into bat, and Callum Guest (32) and Noah Thain (45) put on the biggest partnership of the day, 59 for the second wicket.

George Darlow (26) and Alex Evans (29) counter-attacked, adding 56 valuable runs for the eighth wicket, but he was removed by Andy Hanby, who finished with six for 82.

Charlie Rogers took the wickets of Callum MacLean and Darlow as the innings closed on 213 in the 48th over.

The early removal of Great Witchingham’s Alex Evans brought Yaseen Valli to the crease to join opener James Spelman, and neither need much encouragement to bat long.

Valli made 40, off 75 balls, and Spelman was undone by a beauty from Darlow, agonisingly short of his ton on 98 having increased his league run tally to almost 450.

Drew Beazleigh (31) followed six balls later but Harry Nunn (17) and Peter Trewick (14) saw the hosts home for an impressive six-wicket victory in the 68th over.

Elsewhere, Sudbury defeated Horsford in the battle between sides trying to get into the top three, with second-placed Mildenhall not playing.
