Sean Jenkins and Scott Stanford combined to lead Sawston & Babraham II to the CCA, Senior League, Division Three championship.

Having already won the Walker Cup and Junior League play-off, and been Invitation Cup runners-up, they faced Saffron Walden III to reach the highest division in their history.

Ray Mordini (74) and Bertie Scott (31) set Walden up at 124 for 1, but they lost nine wickets for 47 runs, finishing on 171. Jenkins took four for 28, while Matthew Day and Zak Ives got two wickets apiece.

Stanford smashed an unbeaten 109, off 58 balls, to finish with 964 for the season, and skipper Nick Griggs saw them over the line with 17 not out as they reached their target in 24 overs to clinch back-to-back titles.

Sawston & Babraham’s III disappointing end to the season continued as they were beaten by newly-crowned champions Ickleton in Junior League 3S.

Wes Potschul’s 41 helped Sawston & Babraham close their innings on 146 for 6. But Will Stock’s 84, off 87 balls, saw Ickleton canter home with six wicket and seven overs to spare.

They may have missed promotion, but Sawston & Babraham can console themselves with a first Lower Junior Cup triumph.
