Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club member Shannon Flockhart sets new 1,500m record
Shannon Flockhart wrote another chapter into the Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club record books at the weekend.
Competing in the semi-finals of the 1,500m at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships – held at Hayward Field in the USA – a victorious Flockhart stopped the clocked in a time of 4:05.99.
It was a performance that saw Flockhart, who went on to finish sixth in the final, jump above Holly Archer in the leading women’s Cambridge & Coleridge 1,500m times.
Archer’s previous top time, which was set in Portland three years ago, stood at 4:07.20, while Flockhart’s previous personal best over the distance was 4:08.37.
Closer to home, the club picked up two gold medals and a bronze at the South of England(SEAA) Senior and Under-20 Track and Field Championships.
Aedan Lydon took the top prize in 5,000m with a time of 15:17.78, while Samuel Clarke marked his return from injury with a gold medal in the men’s 400m hurdles.
Meanwhile, David McQueen secured a third-placed finish with a leap of 6.41m in the long jump.
