A day of change at the U's

Shaun Derry has left Cambridge United by mutual consent.

The club released a statement after the 0-0 draw at the Abbey with Lincoln City tonight (Friday, February 9) confirming the departure of the head coach.

Derry had been appointed manager of the U’s in November 2015, and oversaw ninth and 11th-place finishes in Sky Bet League Two in his two seasons in charge.

But he had his role changed last summer to become head coach, and the form of the side this season has been patchy as they currently sit in 14th place.

“I would like to wish Cambridge United and Paul Barry all the best for the future as he takes over ownership of the club,” said Derry.

“I would also like to thank everyone connected to the club for making the last two years memorable.”

The club placed on record their thanks to Derry for all his hard work and commitment during the last two years.

Joe Dunne and Mark Bonner will take temporary charge of the first team with immediate effect.

The news comes on the same day that it was confirmed largest shareholder Paul Barry would become the U’s new owner, and that chief executive Jez George had stepped down from his position.
