Leaders take points from Davey Field visit

Leaders Tonbridge Juddians kicked Shelford into touch in National League Three, London & SE with a 48-19 win at the Davey Field.

The match started well for Shelford as Tuli Paea scored an early try after a good move in the backs.

Tonbridge responded with a touch down, but then Shelford extended their advantage thanks to a breakaway effort from Josh Simmons.

But Tonbridge’s pack became more dominant, driving play up the pitch and scoring two tries through their forwards.

There was more bad news for Shelford when Tom Ransom sustained a serious knee injury, but they responded well to finsh the half camped in the Tonbridge half as it reached the break at 17-14 to the visitors.

It was a bad start to the second period for Shelford as a glut of tries followed thanks to clearance kicks being charged down, missed touch from a penalty and a dropped high ball, leading Tonbridge to surge 38-14 clear.

Tonbridge’s fly-half then gave an exhibition of kicking out of hand to pin Shelford back in their own 22.

Under pressure, Shelford conceded two more tries before rallying and adding a final try from Charlie Baker.
