Tries are shared around in victory

Nine different try scorers helped Shelford seal a 59-22 win at Amersham & Chiltern in National League Three, London & SE.

A slow start owing to a late arrival and typical largesse from Shelford saw the hosts run in two tries to lead 15-3.

Shelford responded quickly as Tom Jackson touched down, with Simon Hrbek converting, and then Jamie Beswick broke through to set up Junior Koresi to touch down for 15-15 at the break.

Shelford’s players responded to coach Gareth Evans’ half-time talk, with Aki Lea galloping round the field, Richy McIver returning to form and outstanding contributions from Dave Hill and Andrew Hutchinson.

It gave Amersham & Chiltern a torrid time as Shelford ran in seven tries, through Hrbek, Jack Harvey, McIver, Mike Gillick, Beswick, Lewis Cracknell and Rupert Ransom. Hrbek added five conversions.

Shelford, who are fifth in the table, host second-placed Wimbledon at the Davey Field this Saturday.
