Gog Magog Golf Club members Chris and Jack Sheriff win Hamish S Fleming County Fourball Championship

Chris and Jack Sheriff triumphed during last weekend’s Hamish S Fleming County Fourball Championship competition.

The father and son combination, who are members of host club Gog Magog, produced a score of 83 points from their two rounds to get their hands on the claret jug.

Chris and 13-year-old Jack scored 43 points during their first round, while fellow Gog Magog members John Altomonte and Rowan Frost finished a point behind on 42.

Other good scores were to follow, with 42 points being returned by Stuart Miller and John Davies of Brampton Park and Colin Mynott and Kyle Morris of St Neots, who recorded five straight birdies from the 8th to the 12th hole in a seven-birdie blitz.

Strong winds made life tough for the players during their second rounds, yet that did not stop Altomonte and Frost from returning a score of 39 for an overall haul of 81. However, that lead was soon snatched away by the Sheriffs thanks to their second round score of 40.

The top three was completed by the St Neots duo of Jay Haywood and Paul Satchwell, who ended with 80 points.

Next year’s event will take place at Saffron Walden GC on 6 April, 2025.
