Six Ely & Chesterton Rink Hockey Club players help England Under-17s win silver medals at Eurogirls event in Switzerland
Six Ely & Chesterton United Rink Hockey Club players made significant contributions to help England Under-17s finish runners-up at the Eurogirls event.
England entered the tournament, which took place in Switzerland last month, having also picked up silver medals at the World Skate Organisation European Championship last summer.
And with Ely & Chesterton’s Sarah Moffett, Emily Bolt, Gemma Cannizzo, Izzy Jansen-Bhatti, Sarah Figredo and Scarlett Courtenay-Barrow all part of the travelling squad, England secured another second-placed finish.
There was also some individual recognition for Bolt, who earned herself a place in the competition’s All-Star Team.
A statement from Ely & Chesterton read: “This success not only cements England's position among the top four European nations in rink hockey, alongside Spain, Portugal and Italy, but also highlights the significant contribution of our club to the national team's prowess.
“ECU is incredibly proud of Sarah, Emily, Gemma, Izzy, Sarah, and Scarlett for their exceptional performances at Eurogirls 2024. Their dedication, hard work and passion for rink hockey have been rightfully recognised on the European stage.
“This achievement reflects the strong development programme at ECU, which started six years ago, and our commitment to nurturing talent within the sport.
“The club congratulates the entire England squad for their success, and is looking forward to supporting our players in their future endeavours, both on the national and international stages.
“The club extends its heartfelt congratulations to the England Under-17 squad and the coaching staff Karl Owen, Lucy Rowlinson and Sam Thorogood for their outstanding achievement at Eurogirls 2024 and thanks the Swiss Rink Hockey Federation for organising such a successful and memorable event.
“ECU remains dedicated to promoting rink hockey and supporting our players in achieving excellence.”
