Cambridge head coach Richie Williams disappointed with ‘errors’ in Not The Premiership Cup defeat at Chinnor
Head coach Richie Williams conceded that his Cambridge side made too many ‘errors’ during their 33-24 defeat at Chinnor on Friday night.
The clash marked the first leg of the ‘Not The Premiership Cup’ – a fixture created between the two clubs following their respective omissions from this season’s Premiership Cup.
And it was Chinnor that will take a nine-point lead into the second leg, which will be played in Cambridge next March.
Williams said: “We made some simple errors – some errors that really cost us.
“Ninety per cent of the points we conceded were a direct result of the errors we made.We gave ourselves a really good opportunity to get back into the game in the last quarter, but we missed a couple of line-outs that really cost us. The skill errors were the Achilles heel for us.
“I was pleased that we managed to score some tries through some work that we’ve previewed in the week, but defensively we’ve got to be better and that skill execution has to be far higher.
“The difference between us and Chinnor was they took the opportunities that they were presented with and we were a little wasteful at times.”
Cambridge are without a fixture this weekend, with their next outing scheduled for 30 November when they head to Doncaster Knights in the RFU Championship.
