Cambridge captain George Bretag-Norris confident there is more to come from RFU Championship side
Club captain George Bretag-Norris believes that there is plenty more to come from his Cambridge side.
With two victories from their opening five RFU fixtures, Cambridge have already matched their total number of victories from the whole of the previous campaign.
However, the long-serving Bretag-Norris is confident that the team has extra gears to go through.
He said: “The first five games have been interesting and the fact that we’ve already won the same amount as last season is a big plus.
“But the great thing about the team we’ve got is that I don’t feel we’ve played anywhere near our best rugby yet.
“We’ve definitely left some points out there, especially in the defeats to Chinnor and Hartpury because we didn’t play very well in those.
“And even in some of the wins we haven’t always been comfortable, so we have a lot more to give as a side.
“On the one hand that’s an exciting prospect to know we’ve been able to win without playing well all of the time, but it also doesn’t mean much until we start putting in complete performances.
“We’ve definitely got a good enough squad to do that – it’s just about us finding some consistency.”
Bretag-Norris and his team-mates head to Doncaster Knights on Saturday (30 November).
The Knights have had an inconsistent start, but the skipper is anticipating a tricky afternoon.
He added: “They’re one of the sleeping giants in the division at the moment.
“When you look at the star names they have then you know how tough it’s going to be, but it looks like it’s taking them a bit of time to gel after a busy summer.
“Do I think it will gel for them eventually? Absolutely. But they’ve been a bit inconsistent so far so it’s hard to know what to expect.
“It will be a tough game, but they’re all tough in the Championship.”
