Cambridge Nomads suffer first defeat of East Hockey League season at hands of Spalding
Cambridge Nomads lost their first East Women’s League Division 3 North West encounter of the season on Saturday.
Nomads, who have dropped to third place and are two points off the summit, slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Spalding II.
It was the visitors that started the brighter of the two sides and they broke the deadlock courtesy of Sarah Warren’s strike.
However, hosting Spalding equalised before the break and they were the stronger force during a second half in which they scored two further goals.
A level down in the East Women’s League Division 4 North West, Cambridge Nomads II enjoyed a 6-2 win on the road at Spalding III.
In the East Men’s Leagues, Cambridge Nomads I, II and III all suffered defeats, but the Men’s IV fared better during their Division 6 North West match up against St Ives V.
Fresh from their victory the previous weekend at the expense of Spalding IV, first-half goals from the combination of Murray Paterson and George Stevenson secured a 2-0 triumph.
