Cambridge United head coach Mark Bonner odds-on favourite for Rotherham United manager's job
Speculation is growing surrounding the future of Cambridge United head coach Mark Bonner.
The 36-year-old's name has been linked with the vacancy at Championship club Rotherham United ever since Paul Warne vacated the AESSEAL New York Stadium for Derby County last week.
And following reports from Yorkshire during the past 24 hours that Bonner has been interviewed for the job, he is now the clear odds-on favourite with the bookmakers to be appointed, although other candidates – including ex-Bristol City boss Dean Holden – are said to be in the running.
After working his way up through the coaching ranks with the U's, Bonner earned the first-team role on a permanent basis in early 2020 after impressing while in interim charge following the departure of Colin Calderwood.
His first full season at the helm ended with promotion to Sky Bet League One for the first time since 2002 – and he kept them the club there in comfortable fashion during 2021/22 – a campaign that also featured a famous Emirates FA Cup victory away at Premier League outfit Newcastle United.
By chance, former Rotherham chief Warne's first game in charge of Derby will be against United at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday.
Rotherham, meanwhile, have made a decent start to life in the second tier with just one defeat from nine outings seeing them sit eighth.
