Rob Roy Boat Club trio win British Rowing’s Coaching Team of the Year award
The Rob Roy Boat Club junior squad’s coaching team beat off national competition to win British Rowing’s Coaching Team of the Year award at a ceremony last week.
Secretly nominated by members of their junior squad, the team of Jo Burch, Andy Turnbull and Stefan Graf were named winners at British Rowing’s online ceremony.
Burch said: “This award says far more about our junior squad than it does about us.
“They worked together and were prepared to take time out of their very busy schedules to write about why they wanted to nominate us.
“We really appreciate them going the extra mile to do this. I’ve only seen what one of the juniors wrote but it is striking that it isn’t just about the medals and racing success.
“What’s more important to them are the little things which we didn’t think they noticed that we do for them, but which make a difference to their lives.
“We couldn’t win an award like this without teamwork. We’re all volunteers, we lead a fabulously dedicated coaching team.
“We have a hugely talented and committed junior squad and we have the support of an amazing bunch of their parents.
“We are very proud to receive the Coaching Team of the Year award, but we accept it very much on the basis that it is an award for the whole club.”
