Stuart McLaren emerged triumphant in a head-to-head showdown to take third place in the Mini Challenge Cooper S series finale at Snetterton.

The Cambridge driver went into the last races of the season unable to catch leading duo Daniel Butcher-Lord and Rob Austin, so it was all about securing third place ahead of Sami Bowler.

The pair were alongside each other after qualifying in the second row on the grid, and in the 15-minute race, Austin was forced to retire with a mechanical problem which elevated McLaren to second place.

Butcher-Lord won to seal the championship, and McLaren finished a place ahead of Bowler to extend the points gap.

The final standings went to the last race of the season, and McLaren and Butcher-Lord battled for the lead in the early stages before the latter pulled clear.

McLaren consolidated second place, staying 11 seconds ahead of Bowler, for third place in the overall championship.
