Histon battle back to pick up maximum points from United Counties League Premier Division South clash against Lutterworth Town

Histon stretched their unbeaten run of Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division South form to five matches with Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Lutterworth Town.

Chris Nunn’s Stutes fell behind at Bridge Road against their Leicestershire-based visitors, but they showed good powers of recovery to come away with the three points that have moved them up to 15th in the table.

Lutterworth took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when a swift counter-attack ended with Hne Wilson turning the ball home from close range.

However, Histon responded within a couple of minutes through midfielder Joe Sutton, who looped a header inside the far post.

And the home side were soon in front after Matt Hayden was hauled to the ground inside the penalty area and Danny Gould stepped up to convert the resultant spot kick.

Gould then turned provider just before half-time when his corner from the left flank was headed home by Josh Kilsby to send Histon into the break with a two-goal advantage.

Histon continued to carve out openings throughout the second half, but Kilsby’s effort proved to be the end of the scoring.

Histon, who are now only two points adrift of 11th place, will return to action on Saturday (16 March) when they head to Yaxley. That game is followed on Tuesday (19 March) by the visit of Bugbrooke St Michaels.
