Histon halt six-game winless streak in United Counties League Premier Division South with victory over Eynesbury Rovers

Histon halted a sequence of six Uhlsport United Counties League Premier Division South outings without a victory by beating Eynesbury Rovers 1-0 last weekend.

The Stutes, who last won on Boxing Day, had been held to four draws and suffered two defeats in recent weeks.

However, that run is now over after Chris Nunn’s men picked up their first three points of 2024 at the expense of third-from-bottom Rovers.

After missing an earlier chance, Danny Gould proved to be the match winner for Histon when he headed in the only goal of the game from Connor Barnes’ cross during the first half.

Babacar Camara and Matt Hayden both passed up opportunities to seal the victory after the restart, while visiting Rovers also rattled the crossbar.

And late on Histon were indebted to their goalkeeper Sam Roach, who managed to turn Declan Rogers’ effort over the crossbar.

Nunn said: “We were outstanding in the first half and should have put the game to bed. Full credit to Eynesbury, they stayed in the game and could have got something in the end.

“However, I felt it was a deserved three points with yet another clean sheet.

“The crowd was excellent and I know I speak for the players when I say that it’s appreciated.”

Sixteenth-placed Histon will play host to Easington Sports on Saturday (24 February) and then head to Wisbech Town in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup on Tuesday (27 February).
