Histon let lead slip during home defeat to G.N.G Oadby at Bridge Road
Histon’s losing start to the new United Counties Football League Premier Division South season continued on Saturday with a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of G.N.G Oadby.
The Stutes had the influential Rob Ruddy and Ed Rolph in their starting line-up for the first time this term and it all appeared to be going well when the latter smashed in the game’s opening goal in the 42nd minute.
However, within 60 seconds the visitors restored parity after Mussa Bham broke clear and got the better of Histon goalkeeper Sam Roach with his shot.
Leicestershire-based Oadby went on to edge themselves in front for the first time 10 minutes into the second courtesy of Zaakir Bham, who was first to react to a rebound inside the Histon box.
Chances then came and went for Histon before the away side wrapped up their victory nine minutes from time through Jay Bruce.
It condemned Lance Key’s men to a third straight league defeat in 2023/24 alongside their early exit from this season’s FA Cup.
Histon, who are set to be in action again this evening at Wellingborough Town, will also be on the road on Saturday (August 19) when the travel to Cogenhoe United for a rearranged fixture.
