Super-sub Ryan Sharman strikes twice as Cambridge City defeat Basildon United
Ryan Sharman was the super-sub for Cambridge City as they clinched a 3-2 win over Basildon United in BetVictor Isthmian League, North Division.
There was a new look to the Lilywhites squad with new signings keeper Jake Jessop (Leiston), midfielders Jarid Robson (Bury Town), Chris Regis (Coggeshall Town) and Michael Gyasi (Coggeshall Town) all making their debuts, and youngster Tommy Rigby earning a start after impressing in the Velocity Trophy win over Harlow.
Basildon opened the scoring through former City player Harry Norman after 12 minutes, and it remained 1-0 at half time.
Jordan Gent equalised for City with a header in the 54th minute, but Ernest Okoh restored Basildon’s lead just five minutes later.
Sharman pounced for his first to make it 2-2 with a header in the 76th minute.
Six minutes later, Sharman was on hand to convert the winner for City.
A late brawl ended with Jessop and Basildon’s Adam Vyse both getting sent off.
City travel to Witham Town next Saturday (November 9).
Histon suffered on the road at Tilbury, being beaten 5-0.
The Stutes host Felixstowe & Walton United this Saturday, but without Rob Ruddy, who has left the club.
