There was some spectacular running at Wimpole Hall Estate as schools from across the south of the county competed in the South Cambs School Sports Partnership’s Big Schools Cross Country Championships.

More than 800 runners took to the course in ideal conditions, while fellow pupils, parents and teachers cheered them on.

The top three runners in each school team scored points, with the Year 3/4 and 5/6 team trophies up for grabs as well as individual honours.

Swavesey Village College stormed to victory in the Year 5/6 event, with George Jennings and Evie Flockhart taking first place in the boys’ and girls’ races respectively.

George Harrison won for Swavesey in the Year 5 boys’ competition, while Linton Heights’ Cressida Hughes won the girls’ race.

Cottenham Village College finished second in the team competition, with Histon & Impington Junior School third.

The Year 3/4 competition saw a much closer finish between Histon & Impington and Swavesey, with the former taking top place by just seven points.

Hardwick & Cambourne Community School finished third.

Swavesey’s Finlay Saward won the Year 4 boys’ race, with team-mate Imogen Reddish winning the girls’ event.

Histon & Impington’s Sophie Duncan won the Year 3 girls’ race, while Dylan Jenkins, from Jeavons Wood, was first home in the boys’ competition.
