Histon move up to sixth in United Counties League Premier Division South after Connor Barnes’ goal wraps up win at Rugby Borough
Histon racked up a third straight win away at Rugby Borough to move to within three points of the United Counties League Premier Division South play-off places this afternoon.
While every other fixture in the division was called off due to the frosty conditions, the playing surface at the Nationwide Windows Arena in Leicestershire was deemed playable by the match officials.
And the Stutes will be delighted with that decision as a first-half goal from Connor Barnes was enough to wrap up a 1-0 victory against their third-placed hosts.
It was a ninth goal of the season for leading scorer Barnes, who has made 16 appearances this term.
The win has moved Chris Nunn’s men up to sixth and they also have a game in hand over fifth-placed Daventry Town, who are three points better off.
Histon boss Nunn wrote on Twitter: “Fantastic win from the @HistonFC boys today. We played a very good @Rugbyboroughfc side, who I’m sure will play a massive part in the title race.”
Histon now have a run of home games coming up with St Neots Town, Leicester Nirvana and Northampton O.N. Chenecks all set to visit over the coming weeks.
