Thomas Bridger earns gold at the England Under-23 & Under-20 Championships
Thomas Bridger sealed a place on the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team for the World Athletics Under-20 Championships at the England Under-23 & Under-20 Championships in Bedford.
The Cambridge & Coleridge AC member was involved in the first race of the day to decide selection for the event in Cali, Colombia.
Bridger had already achieved the qualifying mark in the 3,000m steeplechase and took first place to secure the spot, winning in 9min 2.27sec. Guest runner Alexander Kwa, of Australia, was second in 9.12.31, followed by Tom Heal and Luke Birdseye.
The world under-20 championships are being held from August 1 to 6.
There was also a medal for C&C’s Samuel Clarke.
In the under-23 400m hurdles, he ran a personal best of 51.37sec to earn the silver medal. Peter John Curtis, who has been selected to run for Guernsey in the Commonwealth games, was first in a PB of 51.35.
C&C's Oliver Newman competed in the under-23 men's 1,500m, placing seventh in 3.53.98 and William Newcombe race in the under-20 men's 3,000m, placing 16th in 8.43.14.
