Fantastic' success at prestigious regatta

Tom Copeland has praised Cantabrigian Rowing Club’s “fantastic” performance in securing victory in the Invesco Perpetual Challenge Cup at Henley Women’s Regatta.

The senior women’s crew were in action in the club’s eight event, and finished first in a thrilling race, beating Tideway Scullers School by a canvas in a course record.

“From the outset our goal was to go to the regatta and create a series of performances of which we could be proud,” said coach Copeland. “Too often in side-by-side racing, a crew can let the presence of another boat ruin their rhythm and length.

“While we had our fair share of wobbles over the course of the weekend, when it came to the final, the crew produced an absolutely flawless race.

“To have done this alongside such a fast, competitive crew was fantastic – and without that crew pushing us so hard, we may not have broken the course record.”
